“For the blind man in the dark room looking for the black cat that isn’t there

This is an interview recorded at the Museum of modern Art, Department of Eagles, 12 Burgplatz in Dusseldorf, 1970

  • Is this is good painting? …Does it correspond to what you would expect from the most recent transformation, which leads away from Conceptual Art to this new version of a certain kind of figuration, as one would say?
  • Miaow
  • Do you believe so?
  • Miiaaaw..mm..miauw..miauw
  • Nevertheless, this colour clearly reminds us of a type of painting that was made at the time of abstract art, doesn’t it?
  • Miaaw..Miaaw..miiaw..miaw
  • Are you sure that this is not a new kind of academicism?
  • Miauw
  • Well, but if it is audacious then it is nevertheless a questionable audacity.
  • Miaw
  • After all it still is…
  • Miaw
  • Ah, after all it still is all about the markets..
  • Miauw
  • But all of these paintings will have to be sold.
  • Miaauw
  • What will the people do who had acquired the previous things?
  • Miauw
  • Will they resell them
  • Miiauw..mia
  • Or will they just continue? What do you think? Because many artists are asking this question at the moment.
  • Miaauw..mm.mii..miauw..maaw..Miaauw..miaw..mm..Miauw..miauw..MIAUW
  • Well then, close the museums!
  • MIAUW
